Birmingham’s Last Abortion Facility Closed?

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Jan. 15, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ — Birmingham’s Planned Parenthood, the last remaining abortion facility in the city, is currently closed. But will it remain so?

Local sidewalk counselors report that the facility does not appear to have performed abortions since before Christmas. One counselor confirms that she has only seen a handful of patients show up in the past four weeks, none of which stayed long enough to have an abortion.

But that’s just the start. On December 30th, after the facility was closed for several days, pro-lifers on the sidewalk witnessed the facility’s director being escorted from the building, followed by a repairman changing all of the locks. Three days later, a sign from Planned Parenthood Southeast (PPS) appeared stating that the facility would be closed until January 6th, 2014. After the 6th, sidewalk counselors say the facility did reopen, but only briefly.

URGENT: Send your letter to the Alabama Dept of Public Health today!

As many of you know, the Alabama Department of Public Health will have a hearing October 24th regarding a change to the state’s abortion regulations — namely, the definition of an “abortion center.”

Currently, a doctor’s office can perform up to 30 abortions a month without applying for an abortion provider’s license.  This is far above the national average in other states (and it has allowed abortionist Bruce Norman to continue performing abortions in our state even after his abortion facility was shut down!)

That is why this new regulation is of vital importance.  It will bring the number of abortions performed without a provider’s license down to ten, effectively shutting down runaway abortion providers within our state.

We are asking you to help get this passed!  As of right now, ADPH is calling for public comment.  I am asking each of you to send a positive, courteous letter to ADPH in support of this rule change.  A sample letter can be found below, and written comments must be submitted immediately.

National Director David Bereit Kicks Off Birmingham’s 2013 Fall 40 Days for Life!

Last night, despite the promise of heavy rain, a plentiful crowd of pro-life warriors gathered on the city sidewalk to kick off Birmingham’s Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign. Gathering in front of the city’s last abortion facility, Planned Parenthood, pro-lifers from across the Birmingham area joined in songs of worship, prayer, and some faithful encouragement from special guest David Bereit, National Director of 40 Days for Life.

Bereit shared several stories from his journey with 40 Days, including the initial period of prayer and fasting that he, Shawn Carney, and others participated in to seek God on the power of prayer in the pro-life movement.  Since then, the fruit of their labor has been made clear, with over 300 cities participating in this year’s campaign!

Other leaders from the community included:

Southeast Life & Freedom Seminar a Success!

Last Saturday, CEC For Life and Life Legal Defense Foundation (LLDF) welcomed over 80 pro-life advocates from Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi for the Southeast Life & Freedom Seminar: Protect Your Rights or Lose Them?

After a warm welcome from Fr. Terry Gensemer of CEC For Life, LLDF Executive Director Dana Cody shared with attendees about the successful work of LLDF’s dedicated attorneys and the overall vision of their organization.

Allison Aranda, LLDF’s Senior Counsel, followed with an incredibly informative presentation on everything from bubble zones and injunctions to effective event planning and advocacy methods.  Allison also brought along a special guest to the event: her newborn daughter, Aliya, who spent much of the Seminar networking with our volunteer team.

CEC For Life is absolutely honored to have hosted such a unique event for these courageous attorneys.  Every area of pro-life advocacy was represented on Saturday — sidewalk counseling, local attorneys, pregnancy resource centers — everyone was there!  And they left equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to continue the fight for Life in the Southeast.

A Cry for Dignity: Next Week CEC For Life Heads to Philadelphia!

On August 25-26, the pro-life and pro-faith communities, national and local leaders, along with people of good will, will come together in Philadelphia to ensure the babies murdered by late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell receive a proper and dignified funeral and burial service.

The name of the event is called “A Cry for Dignity!

Tragically, the Medical Examiner‘s Office has refused to release these babies to caring organizations and individuals to afford them a loving and compassionate funeral and burial. The Medical Examiner even locked faith and pro-life leaders out of their public office when they tried to find out more information about how these precious children would be treated.
